This is a very busy place. The parking spaces are ridiculously narrow and the lot itself is ridiculously small. Inside it's crowded but the staff is quick and knowledgeable. The store is always clean and neat. The prices can be a little high but the quality is better than Safeway so it's not too uncomfortable at the check out. Except for produce. I go to Berkeley Bowl for produce for two reasons: price and diversity. For most items they have an organic option, and multiple variants for each product as well, i.e.: not just one variety of apple but 6, and with those 6 there are different sizes. But for most sundries, wine and other non-vegetative items this is the place to go. Their cheese selection is almost as good as BB.
By far the best Whole Foods in the east bay. This place is a part of my family's Saturday morning ritual and always enjoy grocery shopping here. It's never too crowded, the staff is very friendly, and they have the best selection of produce and meat.
