I've had some great times here, a beautiful place with cheap camping. However there seems to be a crime wave going on recently and after parking in the trailhead parking lot for 1 night I came back to find all the wheels stolen from my car.
The thieves (meth heads) left my car on logs and took all the rims and tires, smashed a window, stole a few things from inside the car, took the gasoline, and messed with the fusebox. I think they failed at stealing the car and got pissed and just took everything they could.
The police don't seem to care because it's BLM property and the BLM doesn't have enough staff to secure the area.
You most likely won't have a problem in the campground area but leaving a car in the trailhead parking lot overnight can be a bad idea here.
I also learned that a search and rescue volunteer was shot several miles up river (East) from here in early August. There are people squatting in the woods and also people protecting their illegal marijuana grows. Be careful up here, its beautiful and a little dangerous.
