Years ago, I made pilgrimages to most of the piano dealers in the area to have a chance to find the best piano to compliment the performances of an exceptional young Rachmaninoff performer. After playing the August Förster Model 215 at Pianos Wholesale, no other piano could compare for concerto performances (even the ones I played at more than twice the price). AF became one of my two favorite piano brands ever made. Not only is Pianos Wholesale the exclusive southern California dealer for that piano (as well as its 9 ft. brother the Model 275) but the staff are all the real-deal. Ivan Tudor's tradition of understated excellence extends to everyone that works there from the time of writing, from Jack's low-pressure and high integrity approach to Vivian's enthusiastic vigor for her work, this is a place that exudes a love for instruments. In my professional and academic life I've had the pleasure to encounter some of the most amazing musicians the world has to offer, from Van Cleiburn finalists to Grammy winning vocalists, Grammy nominated composers and Carnegie Hall performers and I wouldn't have to think twice before reccomending Pianos Wholesale to any one of them.
Although it's been about 10 years, all of our school pianos were either refurbished or replaced by Pianos Wholesale/Tudor & Co at that time, about 2007. The service has been great. This is truly a hidden gem here in the San Gabriel Valley. Their expertise, knowledge and craftsmanship is top-notch. Two other friends had their pianos fully restored by the folks at Tudor and were very impressed. It's hard to see their storefront from the street, but go ahead and seek them out for sales and service - I doubt you will be disappointed.
