When I found this place searching for nearby restaurants to my hotel it looked like this could be a great diamond in the rough place to check out. However, Island Grill ended up being neither diamond or rough and fell in between the two.
It starts with the atmosphere when you first walk in. It's dark and unwelcoming and felt a little uncomfortable when I arrived. The staff was very nice but after noticing the decor of the dining room with plastic table covers, etc. we asked to eat in the adjoining Bamboo Room which offered the full restaurant menu. This area was equally as dark but at least it had some nice TVs to watch the local NBA game.
After sitting, we got menus and ordered a couple beers. Their beer selection isn't bad and includes some local favorites like Fat Tire. As for food, I ordered the Chicken Sandwich (can't remember the exact name) and my co-worker ordered the steak sandwich. Both were actually not bad but the bread was twice the size of the chicken and steak so we were left eating a lot of unnecessary bread. Additionally, the french fries were soggy and tasted like they just baked some frozen french fries I'd buy at the store. Not only that, but the sandwiches were $17 a piece. I've had much better food for a lot less cost. And the entire menu was like that with the average entree coming in around $35.
Again, the bright points were the friendly and helpful staff but the atmosphere was just depressing and for what you are paying to eat there you should be getting a much better ambiance, decor, and food quality.
Bottom line...if you see this place...just keep driving. They over charge and under produce.
