Genesee Plaza is right off of Balboa and Genesee, giving it a prime location for shopping markets, other markets (like Home Depot), and lots of eateries. I went here for food, and there was a decent selection of restaurants in the plaza itself, and in the surrounding area. I went during the daytime and it felt safe, welcoming, and efficient. I've also come in the night, and it felt a bit more crowded (right after work hours), so that is something to keep in mind.
