My friend and I attended the Fresno Home 27th Annual Remodeling & Decorating Show at the Fresno Fairgrounds on July 23rd, 2017. My friend Susan and I are both Homeowners and I built up this show as an amazing event to pick up ideas and contacts for us since she's never been. We were both excited. Susan's project was to remodel her kitchen. Mine was front yard landscaping. We approached every business we were interested in by picking up business cards and brochures. Once we went through it all, she decided to go back to the Cabinetry Design Centers booth and inquire more information about their product. We stood there for 5 min waiting for the 2 Reps and their artisan painter partner to end their conversation with each other so she could inquire. We were glanced at but not acknowledged as we stood 2 feet away. I finally tapped the womans shoulder and asked if she had a moment to answer my friends questions. She asked "What questions do you have?" My friend Susan began to explain she is interested in remodeling her kitchen. She stated she had a $10,000 budget. Looking back at the whole situation now, the representative could have simply responded kindly "I'm sorry, the budgets we work with in this company start from about $25,000." This wouldnt be offensive. In fact, it would be an understanding at the point on our part that its high end and not in her price range. We would have thanked her for her time. Instead, she insulted her. Her response to her was "You need to go to a Chinese business for that! Not here! Or go to IKEA!" My friend thanked her and we walked away. She was in shock, then stated she was very offended. For which I was as well but I was still in shock and felt horrible for her because I was the one who convinced her to go and got her excited. My friend is Laotian. Which is why we assume the rep used a chinese business as a putdown. This was unacceptable and horrible customer service to someone who was admiring their product and was innocently wondering if it was something she would be able to do with her budget. Please do something about this. I have also reported this to BBB.
