I called and spoke with Tom about some work I'm looking to have done. He seemed very nice until he asked me what the car is going to be used for with the modifications that I'm inquiring about. At first I thought that was a sign of a good shop. I thought he just wanted to be sure that I was going to achieve what I was after. It was at that point that I lost all respect for Tom and his shop. I explained to him that the car belongs to one of my family members who happens to be 16 years old and a female. His tone completely changed. He told me that I should call Black Forest. He also said "You probably shouldn't mention that the car belongs to a 16 year old kid because if you do, you will probably get "passed off" just like I'm doing to you now." He actually said that! I asked why and he explained that he hears about these kids that get these cars and don't even last a weekend with them. He also mentioned that fact that this car that I'm calling about is going to be a collector car very soon. I'm sorry but who are you to impose your opinion about if she deserves the car or not. I was shocked to say the least. My family loves the Porsche brand...all of us! We have 7 Porsche vehicles in our family and they are all cherished. My response was that he shouldn't be surprised if he finds out that this 16 year old girl that he spoke so disrespectfully about becomes a face of Porsche Corporate. That is her dream. She is the definition of an enthusiast and can out drive just about anyone I know. This shop will never see any business from me or anyone that I know and in case anyone is wondering, he said that he isn't taking on any new clients. All this was said through a conversation with no arguments or emotions involved, that's just his response to a friendly inquiry for work to be done on a Porsche at his shop.
