We love going to this place. My kids can explore and run around. They love seeing the different rock samples and going down into the small section of the line shaft. Totally recommend you check it out.

Great place to get a sense of gold mining history. Go on the tours with the docents. Plenty of walking trails. Kid friendly. Living history tours on weekends.

Definitely check out the Cottage Tour to get inside the buildings that aren't publicly accessible. The visitor center houses the mine model with an audio and light show - amazing to see a physical model of the extent of the mines! Lots of mining, period and cultural history. Cute little gift shop with some rad postcards. The main mine shaft is pretty cool. Get pictures of the kids on the cart that miners rode down the shaft. Docents are adorable and knowledgeable - ask all the questions! We didn't have time for the trails but will come back again!
