I'm new to the area, and this is the first time I needed a mechanic. I've been seeing the same mechanic back in Ventura for about 15 years, so I'm always skeptical.
I have 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant that started to idle very rough and eventually the check engine light went on. I purchased the car from my nephew (who is also a mechanic) but that was in Southern California, and I couldn't get the car back to him. After consulting with him, he told me it was something minor.
I found Almaden Auto Repair online and based on reviews, I took it to them. they quoted me a bunch of repairs that wasn't "minor" anymore and was going to cost about $800 in repair. I only had a few choices:
1. Trust what they were telling me
2. Find someone else, still pay their inspection fee (about $80), and risk hearing the same thing
3. Take it back to my nephew in So. Cal.
Well, 3 wasn't really an option. So I let them do the work.
The car was repaired and it now runs better than when I first bought it. I delayed on a review because I wanted to see how well the car ran. If it still runs well after a year, I'll update to 5 stars.
The best part is that the work and parts is guaranteed for 2 years. To me that's worth the investment.
